1963 TRUE TONE CONSOLE STEREO FINISHED !!!

After many hours of restoration it is finished and we are enjoying listening to our vintage stereo.

Basically the restoration involved taking it all apart and cleaning, repainting and fixing anything missing, the entire cabinet was refinished inside and out and looks great in black .Everything was either repainted or cleaned and polished .The turntable was lubricated, sanded and repainted all the knobs were sanded and repainted. I ordered a new needle from Turntableneedles.com and installed that. I have a video posted here so check it out.

1963 TRUE TONE CONSOLE STEREO

I have been wanting to restore one of these old tube amp console stereos for a long time and last week on Craigs List we found a family that was moving and had 3 dressers a vanity and this console stereo for sale as a group purchase, anyways we bought all the pieces and sold the dressers but I'm keeping the stereo. My plans are to tear it back down to a wood shell and restore it in a contemporary style this cabinet is a well made cabinet made of maple. Man this thing was dirty inside and the particle board interior was coming up as I vacuumed so decided to paint the inside so that when I vacuumed again it would not remove more board and only dust. This stereo sounded great before I started restoring it, but it did need a new needle and it was easy to find a new replacement on the internet also the knobs for volume and balance made a terrible static sound when turned but that was also an easy fix , the dial under the knob's needed cleaning with electric contact cleaner. I will post a video with sound when finished.

$10 LAND FILL RESCUE DESK

This desk maybe the roughest piece of used furniture we have ever bought, this one needed HELP!! big time.
But it had this great oak top that we knew could be beautiful again with a little work.

Look at the bottom drawer??? why would any one put the pull so low??

Here it is, what a difference. the top was stripped back and stained with english chestnut stain and a $5 Goodwill chair was stained and painted to match the desk which was painted Onyx Black and the desk top also was polyurethaned in a satin finish.

The top drawers had locks that would turn but the keys didn't come with the desk, darn. We also painted the inside of the drawers gloss black because they were really nasty.

This desk really looks great.

The chair all by it's self looks awesome.

We are really glad we rescued this great looking desk.

1960's Bassett Dinning Set

We bought this retro Bassett dinning set for $150 and after some cleaning and polishing we were able to sell it on Craigs List today for $ 325. I love it when we come across furniture that doesn't need to be refinished in order to be sold at a profit. Michelle recovered the chairs in a retro styled fabric from Hobby Lobby she also covered the back board of the china hutch with the same fabric. We had a lot of interest in this set and it sold fast.

THRIFT STORE DINNING SET

Michelle bought this battered table for $20 at one of our favorite thrift store's it had a solid wood top and I knew it could be beautiful again.
So I stripped it back to raw wood and sanded it smooth....Why is Daisy sniffing the table leg??? I bet the previous owners of this table had a cat.....Daisy's arch enemy

Michelle found these Duxbury style chairs at another thrift store for $35 they were wobbly and needed re-gluing but after re-gluing and clamping over night they were decent again. I sanded the chairs and painted them with BERH's Oregano Spice semi-gloss paint.

Here is the finished set...the table top was stained with Minwax English Chestnut stain and then received 4 coats of Minwax satin finish polyurethane....the polyurethane was sanded with 220 sandpaper between coats.

This turned out Great , I love that shade of green it really looks Great and we sold it quickly and on to the next piece.

HAZEL THE 3rd

This desk started out as a thrift store find and the chair was also a thrift store find, both piece's needed help.
Really liked the different compartment's in the hutch top. The chair was really sturdy but very dirty and surprisingly comfortable.

Sherwin-Williams Hazel is the paint color for the desk & chair.

We recovered the seat with a black foilage print.

Black hardware looks sharp with this color.

Black metal shoe's on the front legs.

Finished desk and chair look great.
