MID-CENTURY DRESSER MAKEOVER

Michelle found this mid-century dresser at a local thrift store in need of a new finish and a little repair but over all it was in great shape for the year.
One drawer had a missing corner but it's nothing a little Bondo won't fix. Always use a block sander to keep things straight.
Painters tape keeps the drawer guides free of paint.
Sanded drawer faces back to bare wood to remove all dents & dings.
Hazel color looks like it belongs on this piece.
I pulled the mirror off it's base and found that the mirror was plated in the summer of 1955 which I believe is the year of the dresser also, it sure looks 1955.
The next photos are the finished product.

Things we have found in furniture

A brand new pair of CHUBBY CHICK
pantyhose. I wonder how much they
had to pay this woman to be the face
of CHUBBY CHICK pantyhose???
A Polaroid of Al Gore at a book store standing in front of the Bible section ????
A baby bill from 1965. Delivery cost a little over $200. Yes, I know that $200 was a lot of money in 1965 and a new full size Chevy could be purchased for around $2500.

This next item is my favorite so far and was found in the back of a dual pedestal desk folded in half. It's a 1961 John Deere calender that features some  great seasonal watercolor paintings. The next bunch of pic's are my favorites.

ANOTHER HAZEL DESK

I wish we had a dozen of these desk because they sell as fast as we can get them done. This one looked great in the Hazel paint color loved the chair that went with it, found it at a garage sale, very ornate. We are so busy we really don't have time to post things on this Blog so please forgive our tardiness.

BIG BLACK DRESSER

Here it is as we bought it scratched and abused and needing some love.
a lot of the hardware was nailed in place and was carefully removed for painting.
broken pulls that were bondoed and then received a single center metal knob
look at the top drawers below to see finished repair.
This dresser had a lot of ornate hardware to paint.
metal hardware
Here is the finished dresser and it can only be described as masculine. I really love the look of gloss black hardware on satin black paint, it's a classic look.

ANOTHER PEACOCK BLUE CHEST

We are still playing around with this hue o'blue. This chest was painted and distressed and then glazed with English chestnut Minwax stain. The top of this chest was badly scratched, but we where able to sand out all the problems back to bare wood. We then stained it with English chest stain and finished it with Minwax clear satin polyurethane. We sold this quickly and will probably do another one.

$2 GARAGE SALE TABLE RADIO

Michelle found this Hitachi table radio at a garage sale for $ 2.00 and it needed the power cord repaired and that's all, it was dirty and dated looking but it worked and sounded good so we gave it a make over. We painted it with some of the Hazel color we had left over from our desk's projects and the speaker fabric was from a bunch of furniture fabric samples we bought. I didn't take any before pic's but I did find some pic's of model # K-791h on eBay and the radio pictured is about what ours looked like before we restored it.

Peacock chest gets glazed

I sold the Peacock chest, but the buyer wanted to have it glazed black and have the knobs/handles painted black also. I think this looks awesome and will probably do another piece this way.
